Plantodine has specialised in the plant species Calathea, therefore the name of the typeface is inspired by the name of the plant Calathea Zebrina. In order to let the character of the plants flow into the typeface, the focus is primarily on organic forms. The strong contrast in the stroke width is based on the proportion of leaf and stem, and the serifs are based on the shape of a leaf.
